Army Indigenous Development Program (AIDP)

Designed as a meaningful stepping-stone, the Army Indigenous Development Program enables Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to prepare for Army service while simultaneously strengthening cultural identity and community connection. Since 2019, ESI has supported more than 600 Indigenous men and women through the program at Army bases in Kapooka, New South Wales and Berrimah, Northern Territory. ESI is proud to be a trusted delivery partner of the AIDP, working side-by-side with the Australian Army to provide culturally safe, empowering, and transformative outcomes.

Our partnership is built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to excellence. We understand the importance of preparing Indigenous recruits not only academically and physically, but culturally and personally for Army life. Every day of the program is grounded by the Defence’s core values — Service, Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Excellence — and these are embedded into every lesson and activity.

Cultural identity is a strength, not a barrier, and it is celebrated throughout the AIDP journey, culminating in a powerful graduation ceremony that recognises both personal growth and cultural pride. Participants come from communities across Australia, bringing with them unique perspectives and stories — which are honoured and integrated throughout the program.

Our outcomes speak for themselves. 89.5% of program participants have successfully progressed into recruit training with the Australian Defence Force. Others have moved into roles with the Army Regional Force Surveillance Group (RFSG), the Australian Public Service, or returned to their communities as respected leaders and changemakers.

At ESI, we are incredibly proud of the work we do with the Army Indigenous Development Program — and of every single participant who walks through the gates with a dream and walks out with a pathway.
